Topic 7:legal, ethical, and societal issues in media and information literacy (lecture)

Work with your group. Research the meaning of the following words.

1. Copyright - refers to the right of authors to control the use of their work for a limited period of time. A copyrighted work must be an original work of authorship which is fixed in a tangible medium of expression.

2. Plagiarism -  it is the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own.

3. Cyber bullying - it is the use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person. 

4. Computer Addiction - it is a form of behavioral addiction that can be described as the excessive or compulsive use of the computer, which persists despite serious negative consequences for personal, social, or occupational function.

5. Digital Divide - it is the gulf between those who have ready access to computers and the internet, and those who do not.

6.cyber libel- Cyber libel is the term used when someone has posted or emailed something that is untrue and damaging about someone else on the internet.

7. Cyber sec-trafficking - it is a cybercrime carried out partly by means of computers and the internet.

8. Online fraud- it refers to any type of fraud scheme that uses email, web sites, chat rooms, or message boards to present fraudulent solicitations to prospective victims.

9. Ai ethics- it is a system of moral principles and techniques intended to inform the development and responsible use of artificial intelligence technology.

10. Cybercrime- encompasses a wide range of criminal activities that are carried out using digital devices and/or networks. 

11. Phishing- it is the practice of sending fraudulent communications that appear to come from a legitimate and reputable source, usually through email and text messaging.

12. Citizen Journalism - it is the collection, dissemination, and analysis of news and information by the general public, especially by means of the internet.
